Job description

Our client, a leading global producer and exporter of high-value seafood products, is currently seeking a Cost Accountant to join their team at their Brudenell, Prince Edward Island processing facility.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll be at the core of financial operations, supporting plant management and collaborating with Head Office. You’ll play a key part in driving efficiency and profitability by analyzing costs, managing inventory, and delivering actionable financial insights that support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities :

  1. Prepare and maintain cost accounting records, including production costs, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
  2. Monitor daily production activity and evaluate direct and indirect costs.
  3. Analyze raw material, labor, and overhead costs; generate detailed reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  4. Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual cost audits, reconciling cost accounts and ensuring the accuracy of financial reports.
  5. Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring cost assumptions are accurate and aligned with plant goals.
  6. Collaborate with inventory teams to ensure accurate inventory counts and cost allocations across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  7. Work closely with production teams to understand processes and cost drivers, offering insight into cost-saving and efficiency strategies.
  8. Prepare financial reports and present findings to senior management, identifying risks and opportunities.
  9. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific practices.
  10. Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls and cost-related policies.

Qualifications :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related diploma.
  2. 2–3 years of cost accounting experience in a seafood plant or meat and poultry manufacturing environment.
  3. Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, financial analysis, and inventory management.
  4. Proficiency with Sage 300 accounting software and ERP systems.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  6. Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  7. Must be willing to work on-site, Monday through Friday (minimum 5 days per week).
  8. Knowledge of seafood processing operations and supply chain management is a strong asset.
