Position Scope :

Reporting to the Director of Finance, this is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional with manufacturing experience to join a growing frozen food manufacturing company in Toronto. In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with operations, production, and finance to ensure accurate costing, drive efficiency, and support data-driven decision making. Your work will have a direct impact every day—helping the team manage margins, track performance, and deliver high-quality products to customers. Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for operational cost control and financial performance at the plant level supporting production, purchasing, inventory, scheduling, sales and QA
  • Responsible for product costing, manufacturing performance, and inventory control
  • Track and maintain standard and actual cost models (raw materials, packaging, labour, overhead)
  • Analyze batch yields, scrap, downtime, and overhead absorption
  • Perform variance analysis (e.g., purchase price variance (PPV), usage, yield, yield loss, downtime costs)
  • Monitor batch costing and SKU profitability
  • Assist with BOM setup and inventory reconciliations
  • Reconcile inventory, WIP, and BOM variances
  • Assist production and procurement with cost control initiatives
  • Help track plant KPIs and reporting
  • Provide data for profitability analysis by SKU, customer, or production line
  • Support costing data for contract quotes and new product development
  • Coordinate with production and inventory for accurate reporting
  • Costing & Margin Analysis : Track raw material, labour, and overhead costs per SKU or batch / Maintain standard and actual cost models / Analyze product line and customer profitability.
  • Inventory & Variance Reporting : Support inventory valuation and cycle counts / Investigate and explain yield losses or production variances.
  • Operational Support : Collaborate with production and scheduling to capture true manufacturing costs / Monitor utility usage, rework, downtime and their financial impacts.
  • Reporting & KPIs : Generate daily / weekly dashboards for plant performance / Monitor cost trends and suggest efficiencies.
  • System Entry & Reconciliations : Reconcile inventory and work-in-process accounts / Support ERP system integrity and master data accuracy.
  • Regulatory & Traceability Support : Assist QA and supply chain in tracking costs tied to CFIA, food safety, RSPO or lot recalls
  • Recommends cost corrections and identifies cost-saving opportunities
  • Provides insights that inform pricing and operational decisions
  • May lead or support month-end plant reporting and KPI tracking

Required Skills and Knowledge :

  • Maintains the company’s cost accounting system; makes recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Provides cost estimating for new and existing products and participates in cost reduction initiatives.
  • Prepares and analyzes specific accounting statements and reports to assist in the preparation of financial statements, tax reports, and other internal and external reports as required.
  • Prepares monthly invoices.
  • Prepares, researches, resolves, and enters recurring and reversing journal entries.
  • Reconciles all bank accounts.
  • Coordinates with other departments to achieve cost planning targets.
  • Assists in development and transmissions of operating plan and strategic plan.
  • Analyzes monthly operating performance and profit projections for reporting and developing action items.
  • Participates in monthly and yearly closing process including journal entry preparation.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of annual budgets.
  • Assists with related special projects as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a finance, accounting or related field, or equivalent
  • Two to four years related experience or equivalent
  • Accounting designation(s) appreciated but not required
  • Proficient in standard productivity and ERP / accounting software
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
