Job description

Venor is proud to partner with Saeplast in their search for a Cost Accountant to join their team.

Based in Saint John, for over 30 years, Saeplast’s engineers and designers have worked hard to ensure that their products meet the toughest demands for their global customers. Saeplast constantly strives to improve the designs for better handling and increased safety, thereby raising the value of their customer´s products. Reporting to the Controller, the Cost Accountant will be responsible for providing financial support to the leadership team to ensure accurate reporting and decision making.

As a key member of the finance team, the Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing cost structures, optimizing processes, and ensuring accurate reporting to support business performance. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, manufacturing environment and is passionate about leveraging cost data to improve operations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Analyzing and reporting on manufacturing and production costs
  • Developing and maintaining cost accounting systems and processes
  • Preparing cost estimates and standard costs for both new and existing products
  • Conducting variance analysis (standard vs. actual costs) and providing insights into discrepancies
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
  • Monitoring inventory transactions and performing regular reconciliations
  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes with cost-related journal entries
  • Collaborating with production, purchasing, and supply chain teams to improve cost control
  • Providing cost-related data to support strategic decision-making
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies and accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS)

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA designation preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, ideally within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and best practices
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing cost structures is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of lean accounting or activity-based costing (ABC) is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
