Job description

Plains Midstream Canada has a career opportunity for a Corrosion Specialist within the Operations team. This role interfaces between Maintenance and Field Operations to ensure cathodic protection systems and equipment management activities are planned, coordinated, and executed effectively.

Reporting to the Area Manager, we seek a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment, confident in program execution while managing stakeholder needs and constraints.

Responsibilities:

  1. Act as an intermediary between the corporate corrosion group and field operations personnel.
  2. Coordinate cathodic protection (CP) surveys of pipelines, tanks, and facilities, including annual surveys, resource arrangements, and rectifier inspections.
  3. Plan and oversee field maintenance and remediation of CP deficiencies.
  4. Manage rectifier/ground-bed installations and monitor existing facilities.
  5. Review and analyze pipe surface inspection data.
  6. Address interference issues with other pipeline companies.
  7. Ensure CP data is uploaded into the designated system and generate reports for the Corrosion Supervisor.
  8. Coordinate chemical injection programs and monitor corrosion devices.
  9. Develop and maintain a 10-year budget and execution plan.
  10. Manage third-party contractors, ensuring adherence to budgets and protocols.
  11. Handle project management for corrosion capital maintenance work.
  12. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  13. Provide corrosion expertise and support to other teams.
  14. Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary engineering degree or Engineering Technology Diploma with AMPP/NACE CP Level 1 or 2 certification.
  2. Minimum 7 years of experience with cathodic protection systems and pipeline maintenance.
  3. Journeyman electrician certification is an asset but not required.
  4. Knowledge of electrical testing equipment and multi-meters.
  5. Strong computer skills; familiarity with database systems like PCS, CMMS systems such as Maximo or SAP.
  6. Ability to interpret technical documents and data.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Organized with proficient record-keeping skills.
  9. Problem-solving ability and deadline management.
  10. Ability to handle multiple projects under pressure.
  11. Reliable, safety-conscious, with a valid driver’s license and clean abstract.
  12. Willingness to travel up to 35% within the district.
  13. Background and reference checks, compliance with drug and alcohol policies, and safety training completion required.
  14. Reside within 120 km of the assigned field office.
