Job summary

Ontario Public Service (Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide patient-centred primary health care in a correctional setting. You will collaborate with an inter-professional health team and apply your expertise to deliver comprehensive care to individuals in custody.

You will assess, diagnose and treat, promote health, and support self-care while adhering to professional standards and security requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (NP) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• NP specialty in primary health care or adult care is required.
• Clinical assessment, critical reasoning and patient-centred care are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and prescribe treatment with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention.
• Communicate diagnosis and treatment plan options to patients.
• Collaborate with an inter-professional team to develop patient plans of care.
• Involve offenders in their own plan of care to support self-care.
• Respond to emergencies and implement appropriate interventions.
• Practice according to College standards, ministry expectations and security rules.
