Job summary

As a Nurse Practitioner with the Toronto South Detention Centre, you will work within an inter-professional health care team to provide patient-centred primary care for individuals in custody.

Expect a typical day including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and collaboration with healthcare staff to promote health, prevent disease, and support self-care within a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse Extended Class (NP) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Nurse Practitioner specialty certificate in primary health care or adult care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and prescribe treatment focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.
• Communicate diagnosis and treatment plan options to patients.
• Collaborate with an inter-professional team in developing the patient plan of care.
• Support self-care by involving patients in their care plan.
• Respond to emergencies and implement appropriate interventions.
• Practice in accordance with nursing standards, ministry expectations and security requirements.
