ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support in the project coordination, implementation, maintenance of electronic security systems assets (access control, video surveillance, intrusion alarm, and panic/emergency systems across the Region, security keys), and contract compliance of vendors. Ensures technical security standards are adhered to in new construction projects; troubleshooting, testing and repairing security systems components and equipment; working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure operational integration other relevant operational systems.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Assists in the development of operational project preparation and contract specifications in compliance with annual budgets and operating plans; participates and provides input into project scoping and information gathering.
  • Monitors and provides project leadership for all new or upgrade security system works.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on all security assets at all leased and owned facilities within the Property Services operating portfolio.
  • Oversees security system contractors including project coordination, project implementation, contract administration and quality control as it relates to security systems projects.
  • Reviews and provides advice to contractors and consultants prior to installs/repairs being completed and takes a key role in the commissioning of new assets, major upgrades or modifications ensuring that all necessary system needs are considered.
  • Provides information to, and coordinates/works with contractors and consultants on major rebuilds, repairs, and security system installation.
  • Documents preparation of repairs of security systems and prepares specifications required for purchasing materials and parts, including supporting the preparation of RFQs, RFTs and Tenders for consultants and vendors for electrical systems installations and repairs, reviewing drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in evaluation of the projects providing recommendations and reports.
  • Supports quality assurance activities to monitor program effectiveness and continuous improvement efforts within the Branch.
  • Supports the management in contract management with regards to technical aspects of implementation and maintaining of technical aspects of operational security systems contracts for Regional properties (provides technical specifications of security systems, works with vendors for maintenance).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technician/Technologist College Diploma.
  • Minimum three (3) years related experience in service and installation of security/low voltage systems including contract compliance.
  • Experience in the security system plans and specifications and commissioning and knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to security systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and Provincial Building Codes, Electrical Safety Code, Municipal By-laws and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Understanding and practical knowledge of relevant security system software/surveillance systems.
  • Ability to work with consultants and contractors, conduct inspections, review work in progress.
  • Demonstrated ability in the Region’s core competencies.
  • Ability to use MS Office Suite including the use of virtual platforms for conducting meetings and/or presentations
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with vendor/contractors.
  • Satisfactory Police Criminal Background Check.
