TITLE: Corporate Director of Inventory Control

Position Overview

The Corporate Director of Inventory Control is responsible for leading the strategic vision and execution of inventory planning, accuracy, compliance, and optimization across the GS Foods Group enterprise. This position ensures effective systems, processes, and policies are in place to control inventory levels, reduce shrinkage, and maximize inventory turns, supporting customer satisfaction and financial performance.

The role will partner cross-functionally with Procurement, Finance, Distribution, Operations, and IT to implement best-in-class inventory practices, improve visibility, and lead data-driven decision-making aligned with organizational goals.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a long-term inventory control strategy that supports company growth, cost efficiency, and service level goals.
  • Lead the design and rollout of inventory management frameworks across multiple business units and distribution centers.
  • Drive continuous improvement and change management initiatives related to inventory processes, controls, and technologies.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of physical inventory, reconciling cycle counts and annual physicals with system records.
  • Oversee root cause analysis for inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to monitor inventory health and compliance across all locations.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing inventory control team, including regional and site-level inventory managers.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and process discipline.
  • Partner with HR to develop training programs and performance management for inventory staff .
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with IT and Supply Chain Systems teams to implement and maintain ERP and WMS solutions that support inventory accuracy.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Demand Planning teams to align inventory levels with forecasted needs and supply constraints.
  • Ensure company-wide adherence to internal controls, audit standards, and regulatory requirements related to inventory.
  • Lead investigations into inventory loss, fraud, and compliance failures, reporting findings to senior leadership.
  • Oversee documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to inventory handling, storage, and movement.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of inventory accounting principles, cycle counting, and root cause analysis.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management and process improvement (Lean/Six Sigma) skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site, and cross-functional environment.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management , Business Administration, Finance, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • Experience within progressive inventory control, and/or Accounting and Finance, with supply chain management experience, and with at least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience in food distribution, retail, or consumer goods sectors highly preferred.
  • Proven experience with ERP and WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, NetSuite).

Working Conditions And Physical Demands

Professional office environment. Primary office environment is ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. Occasional travel required to distribution centers and regional facilities. May require extended hours during audits, inventory counts, or major system rollouts.
