The Job
The Corporate Controller is responsible for financial leadership, strategy, overseeing financial consolidation, and audits. Responsibilities include managing audits, ensuring regulatory compliance, streamlining transactional processes and systems according to data governance standards, and mentoring the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Lead a culture of teamwork, integrity, and curiosity; deepen organizational relationships; leverage systems and knowledge.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, controls, and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Understand end-to-end organizational processes to enhance financial processes and controls.
- Supervise and mentor a team of 6 accounting professionals.
- Oversee weekly/monthly GL account reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit sales tax filings timely.
Financial Consolidation & Audit
- Oversee the preparation of consolidated financial statements per IFRS.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including financial statements and notes.
- Conduct monthly balance sheet reviews and trend analysis.
- Ensure compliance with C-SOX, maintain internal controls, coordinate testing, and implement remediation.
- Partner with external auditors for audits related to C-SOX and IFRS.
Technical Accounting & Process Improvement
- Provide technical accounting support.
- Design and evaluate internal controls and processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements using technology.
- Collaborate across departments to improve and align processes.
- Coordinate with tax accountants and auditors for compliance and audit readiness.
- Build cross-functional relationships to support organizational priorities.
- Develop tax strategies to optimize expenses and ensure compliance.
- Support reporting to the Audit Committee and Board.
- Lead projects such as creating separate GL structures for restricted and operational accounts.

- CPA Designation.
Experience
- Advanced accounting and software expertise.
- 2-3 years audit experience.
- 5+ years in people management.
- 7+ years tax experience.
- 7+ years in a corporate finance/accounting environment.
- 7+ years in the insurance industry (asset experience).
