Job summary

• Proficient with Sage 300 and ERP systems; strong Excel and data analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
• Experience leading accounting in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accurate reporting.
• Oversee AP, AR, inventory, and general ledger operations.
• Analyze results vs budget and explain variances.
• Provide profitability analysis, pricing, and labor efficiency insights.
• Develop and mentor the accounting team; manage internal controls.
• Coordinate tax filings and year-end reporting with partners.
• Manage cash flow, working capital, and capital investments.

Terra Nova Components (“TNC”) is a leading manufacturer of engineered wood building components. From facilities in Thorndale, Smith Falls, Kingston and Brockville, we design and manufacture roof trusses, wall panels, floor systems and lumber packages for developers and general contractors building homes and commercial buildings across Ontario. TNC is a portfolio company of Celina Capital Corporation, which is a Toronto-based family office.

Role Description:

TNC is currently looking for an experienced and hands on Corporate Controller to lead the accounting function. The position will be located in one of our facilities in Kingston, Smiths Falls or Thorndale Ontario. The Controller will actively manage financial reporting, cash flow, compliance, internal controls, and a small accounting team. As a key member of the management team, the successful candidate will provide accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls and contribute to the organization’s success. We are looking for someone who has the ability to grow with the Company.

Responsibilities:

• Leads financial reporting, including managing month-end and year-end close processes ensuring information is accurate, timely, and useful for decision-making;
• Manages accounting operations, including AP, AR, inventory management and general ledger activities;
• Analyzes financial results against budget and prior periods providing explanations for material variances;
• Produces monthly profitability analysis and monitors pricing, labor efficiency and purchases;
• Partners with management team to develop actionable insights to improve profitability;
• Leads, mentors, and develops the accounting team;
• Leads year end financial reporting and tax filings working with accounting and tax partners;
• Manages cash flow, working capital and capital investments;
• Coordinates banking activities and provides information required by lenders;
• Supports budgeting and forecasting activities in collaboration with management team and the Board of Directors;
• Manages the Company’s internal control environment, accounting policies, tax filings, and other reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years in Controller, Assistant Controller or comparable role;
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience;
• High level of proficiency with financial software (Sage 300) and ERP systems; strong Excel and data analysis capabilities;
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business;
• Proven experience in an accounting leadership role in a manufacturing environment;
• Strong knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, manufacturing variances, and gross-margin analysis;
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear recommendations;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present to senior leadership;
• Sound judgement and professionalism when working with third parties such as auditors, banks, and tax professionals; and
• Willingness to travel between facilities across Southern Ontario.
