Graymont is seeking a driven Corporate Affairs and HSE Manager to lead impactful strategies across the Western North American Region, partnering with plant managers and leaders to drive continuous improvement in HSE programs at Graymont.
Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Affairs, Environment, & Sustainability for North America, the Corporate Affairs and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, workplace safety, and corporate governance with a focus on the western North America operations. This role involves collaboration across departments to promote a culture of safety and sustainability while managing corporate communications and stakeholder relations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, standards and other programs to support HSE management system deployment within the western North America region.
- Collaborate effectively with operations and other support functions in North America on continuous improvement projects to build and maintain a world-class HSE function.
- Provide training and guidance on HSE best practices from internal or external sources.
- Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while supporting internal compliance action tracking systems.
- Facilitate and / or support environmental permitting as needed to facilitate growth and / or further improvement to our operations.
- Facilitate and / or support risk assessments, compliance audits, and internal standards audits as required.
- Facilitate and / or support incident investigations and develop corrective actions.
- Periodically evaluate HSE trends within the region in order to support HSE planning in coordination with operations.
- Develop and execute communication strategies that align with Graymont’s mission, vision, and values.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, community organizations, and industry associations as needed to build relationships, support projects, and exhibit Graymont values.
- Prepare and present HSE performance reports to management.
- Lead and mentor Senior HSE Specialist for the region.
- Foster growth of safety culture for each respective facility aligning with identified opportunities.
- Facilitate and / or support Graymont’s sustainability improvements and initiatives while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Support and advance activities aligned with Graymont's efforts to decarbonize.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Science / Engineering related bachelor's degree required, with a degree in Health, Safety or Environmental emphasis preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in HSE management and corporate affairs.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, communities, and non-government organizations.
- Project management experience and qualifications preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to influence others in decision making.
- Ability to work and solve problems independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and organize.
- Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a team member.
- Proficient in basic computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Relational Databases).
- Experience in emergency planning, crisis management, and media relations.
- Leadership skills with a focus on personnel development.
- Hybrid office (split remote + office) with travel as needed to support North America corporate affairs, HSE and sustainability.
- May require participation in after-hours meetings and events.
