Job description

Our client within investment management requires a Corporate Accountant and Bookkeeper to join their team. This role is considered a crucial part of the organization, requiring a self-motivated, curious, and detail-oriented individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the general ledger by accurately posting daily financial transactions in compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Perform tasks related to accounts payable and receivable, including posting invoices and ensuring timely payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts for the firm, various holding companies, and family trusts.
  • Maintain a monthly invoice checklist to ensure completeness and timely payment/receipts.
  • Review and process expense reports from company credit cards and employees, ensuring compliance with company policies and accurate expense coding.
  • Process payroll: submit to ADP, post into Sage, and reconcile on a weekly basis.
  • Execute month-end closing procedures, including submitting filings (EHT, HST) within regulatory deadlines.
  • Maintain spreadsheets related to legal expenses and donations.
  • Keep accurate electronic records, including invoices and statements of accounts.
  • Assist in preparing the trial balance and income statement on a monthly basis.
  • Support the Compliance Group with BSI’s compliance program, including maintaining checklists, logs, and regulatory filings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Liaise with the CRA for audits and ad hoc requests, providing updates to the team.
  • Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Help prepare reports for annual year-end audits.
  • Draft process documents, memos, and summary reports, ensuring organized record-keeping on internal servers.
  • Act as a backup for colleagues as needed.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects based on the firm’s needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a recognized accounting designation.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional bookkeeping experience (asset).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of corporate taxes (asset).
  • Familiarity with SAGE accounting software (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Willingness to learn new technology platforms to enhance reporting and payment systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written in English).
  • High attention to accuracy, with a diligent approach to reducing accounting errors.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and passion for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in managing workload.
