Job summary

Mackinnon Bruce International seeks an experienced Core Shack Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of a core processing and logging facility in Quebec, supporting an active mining operation.

You will supervise core shack personnel, ensure proper handling, labeling, storage, and chain of custody, and collaborate with Exploration and Geology teams to uphold safety and data integrity. Strong leadership and QA/QC experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a core shack, field camp, or mineral exploration environment.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of diamond drill core handling, processing and sampling.
• Experience with core cutting, photography, labeling, sampling and storage.
• Knowledge of QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
• French and English language skills preferred/required depending on site requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily activities of the core shack and coordinate workloads with drilling schedules.
• Manage receipt, handling, cutting, photography and storage of diamond drill core.
• Ensure core is properly labeled, organized and maintained throughout processing and sampling workflow.
• Coordinate core logging and sampling with Exploration Geologists and Geological Technicians.
• Maintain records of core movements, sample numbers, and chain of custody.
• Supervise, train and mentor core shack technicians and assistants.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve core processing and workflow efficiency.
• Support QA/QC procedures and ensure samples are prepared and dispatched per protocols.
• Assist with geological data collection and other exploration activities as required.

We are seeking an experienced Core Shack Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of a core processing and logging facility supporting an active mining operation in Quebec.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that drill core is received, processed, photographed, sampled, stored and tracked accurately and efficiently. This role will supervise core shack personnel and work closely with the Exploration and Geology teams to maintain high standards of quality, safety, organization and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily activities of the core shack and coordinate workloads based on drilling schedules and exploration priorities.
• Manage the receipt, handling, cutting, photography and storage of diamond drill core.
• Ensure core is properly labelled, organized and maintained throughout the processing and sampling workflow.
• Coordinate core logging and sampling activities with Exploration Geologists and Geological Technicians.
• Maintain accurate records of core movements, sample numbers, intervals and chain of custody.
• Ensure core photography and sampling are completed to company standards.
• Monitor and maintain core shack equipment, tools and facilities.
• Manage core inventory and ensure efficient utilization of available storage space.
• Supervise, train and mentor core shack technicians and assistants.
• Ensure compliance with company health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve core processing, sampling and workflow efficiency.
• Support QA/QC procedures and ensure samples are prepared and dispatched in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist with geological data collection and other exploration activities as required.
• Coordinate with drilling contractors and site teams to ensure continuous and efficient core handling.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment within the core shack.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience working within a core shack, geological field camp or mineral exploration environment.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of diamond drill core handling, processing and sampling procedures.
• Experience with core cutting, photography, labelling, sampling and storage.
• Knowledge of geological QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
• Valid driver's licence is an asset.
• Experience with exploration software and geological databases is an asset.
• French and English language skills are preferred/required depending on site requirements.
