Job description

Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM) is a forward-thinking mining company redefining the industry. We are seeking two Core Geotechnicians to join our growing McIlvenna Bay team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay site working a 14/14 rotation.

The McIlvenna Bay Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposit is one of the largest undeveloped VHMS deposits in Canada. Foran recently announced (2024) approval by the Board of Directors for the project to proceed to the formal construction phase with initial production expected in Q4 2025. The McIlvenna Bay deposit’s core commodities are critical for the global transition to green energy and Foran aims to extract these critical minerals in a sustainable manner by empowering local communities, contributing to circular economies and protecting the environment for future generations.

As part of the Geology Team and reporting to the Core Shack Supervisor, the Core Geotechnician will be responsible for preparing oriented core for logging and geotechnically logging drill core to help identify and assess geological structures and rock properties. This position requires strong technical skills in geotechnical analysis, as well as experience working in a mining or exploration environment.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepare oriented core for logging and geotechnically log drill core to identify geological structures and rock properties following Foran’s logging guidelines.
  • Core orientation preparation - docking core and marking reference lines with QAQC notes.
  • Geotechnically logging drill core (Recovery, RQD, Magnetic susceptibility measurements, Specific Gravity measurements, etc.)
  • Metre marking core and core boxes.
  • Core sampling using diamond rock saw & preparing sample shipments under the supervision of geologist.
  • Identifying and reporting drill related issues immediately to Senior Project Geologist (ie. block errors, orientation problems, misplaced core etc.)
  • Collect and record geotechnical data using various tools and software, including digital imaging, geotechnical logging software, and other data management systems.
  • Provide geotechnical support to other team members, including interpretation of geotechnical data, and assisting with the development of geological models.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of geotechnical equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Complete drill site inspections as required.
  • Assist with other geology-related tasks as needed, including geological mapping, sampling, and drilling programs or miscellaneous camp duties if work is completed in the core shack.
Job Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; geological technician certification considered an asset.
  • 2+ years of experience in geotechnical analysis, ideally in a mining or exploration environment.
  • Experience with geotechnical logging software and other geotechnical analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to record accurate data.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Foster positive working relationships with co-workers and contractors both on and off site.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites as required.
Physical Demands & Job Hazards:
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to work in remote locations, under challenging conditions.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.
Tools & Equipment:
  • Will be required to operate quads, snowmobiles.
  • May be required to operate a chainsaw.
Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $60,000 - $70,000/year based on experience and qualifications. Annual discretionary short term incentive award at a percentage of base salary, rewarding exceptional contributions to team and company success.
