Salary ranges:

  • GL-PCF-08 - Paint & Pre Finish Instructor: $30.94 to $33.62 per hour
  • GL-SMW-10 - Instructor, Sheet Metal / Welder: $34.90 to $37.94 per hour
  • GL-VHE-10 - Instructor, Mechanic Heavy Equipment: $32.81 to $35.64 per hour

Inmate Training Differential: varies by position, with a $2000.00 rate applicable to some positions

Duties
Work environment

CORCAN, part of the Correctional Service of Canada, manages employment and employability programs for offenders serving federal sentences. CORCAN supports various interventions within federal institutions and for offenders under community supervision.

Instructors in CORCAN, including those in this process, provide on-the-job and vocational training, conducting duties related to industry within correctional environments (both institutional and community-based). They supervise and train offenders assigned to the CORCAN employment program across various areas.

To be considered, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the following essential qualifications:

Education
  • Paint & Pre Finish Instructor only: Valid trade certification in related areas (e.g., Painter, Painter Decorator, Motor Vehicle Body Repairer, Automotive Painter) recognized by provincial authorities or equivalent, valid in the designated province.
  • Combination of education, training, and/or experience acceptable if the province does not require specific trade certification.
  • Instructor, Mechanic Heavy Equipment only: Valid trade certification in related areas (e.g., vehicle mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic) recognized by provincial authorities or equivalent, valid in the designated province.
Experience

Experience working in a production environment related to the position, including use and maintenance of relevant equipment.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of CORCAN employment programs.
  • Knowledge of metal materials, fabrication processes, and basic welding techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and complete projects.
  • Interpersonal skills, ethics, and values.
Additional experience (asset)
  • Experience with offenders in correctional settings.
  • Experience instructing in educational environments.
  • Experience with powder coating, electrostatic finishing, auto body painting, sandblasting, CNC machines, reading blueprints, and using precision instruments.
Operational requirements
  • Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Reliability security clearance.
