MAKING AN IMPACT

Reporting to the Director, Cops for Cancer, the Cops for Cancer Coordinator works closely with a national team accountable for one of Canada’s most unique cycling tours to support the program’s logistical and administrative needs. As the Cops for Cancer Coordinator, you will be the main staff partner for Tour de North (Northern BC) and focus the rest of your time (50%) on supporting other Cops for Cancer events and tours. The role works closely with the leadership volunteers to deliver on operational requirements as well as forge exceptional relationships with the broad range of communities involved in the campaign. It also requires working closely with the internal Cops for Cancer team in coordinating event logistics, managing stakeholder communication and attending event as a Canadian Cancer Society representative. The candidate must be self-motivated, a proactive problem solver and well-organized.

What is Cops for Cancer?

The Cops For Cancer Program is one of the largest fundraisers of pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes. Through this life-changing program, public servants commit to making a difference and supporting children and their families living with cancer. This unique and vibrant cycling tour invites childhood cancer survivors and their families to feel like they are part of the first responder community, creating life-long bonds between kids and first responder riders. As the Cops for Cancer coordinator, you will support all 5 Cops for Cancer tours and take part in forging these bonds, creating memories for kids, raising life-changing funds and planning one of the most impactful cycling events in Canada.

What You’ll Be Doing

Executes Cops for Cancer strategies and activities for CCS and is responsible for achieving assigned tour revenue and expense targets.

  • Supports the development and growth of Cops for Cancer Tour de North, by working closely with the Director, Cops for Cancer , the CCS First Responders Programs team and First Responder agencies in the community.
  • Works directly with Tour Steering Committee to effectively implement and execute assigned Cops for Cancer event(s) of 7 days to meet or exceed revenue targets of $200,000 or more.
  • Displays exceptional coordination, implementation and execution of all logistical and administrative tasks.
  • Acts as the relationship manager for assigned Cops for Cancer stakeholders to ensure alignment with the Cops for Cancer development plan.
  • Actively responds and takes initiative on fundraising opportunities with volunteer organizing committees, sponsors, participants and donors ensuring appropriate cultivation.
  • Identifies creative and innovative opportunities in the development or enhancement of existing Cops for Cancer planning initiatives, strategies and revenue development.
  • Participates in team initiatives to revise or enhance existing Cops for Cancer strategies or to implement new activities and to conduct regular evaluations of tour activities.
  • Uses data to drive decisions and always act within the best interest of the Canadian Cancer Society and those we serve.
  • Takes a donor centric approach to all fundraising activities and consistently delivers effective stewardship and engagement practices.
  • Represents CCS at Cops for Cancer events and on assigned tour(s).

Supports Cops for Cancer Specialist(s) with planning and execution of Cops for Cancer program as assigned:

  • Supports Specialists with account management tasks including participant onboarding, coaching and stewarding as well as external customer service support.
  • Responsible for maintaining event logistics documents such as critical paths and budgets for Cops for Cancer tour(s) as assigned.
  • Supports in effectively implementing and executing Cops for Cancer event(s) of 9+ days to meet or exceed revenue targets.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with all key stakeholders including staff, volunteers, external vendors and other key partners and first responder agencies; ensures timely and effective customer service to meet their needs.

New Business Development

  • Actively solicits and secures new tour sponsors, schools and community events for assigned tour(s) in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
  • Proactively identifies partnership opportunities to increase revenue within portfolio and beyond.
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education such as acquiring a college diploma, as well as specialized technical/professional training and/or certification, or equivalent.
  • More than 6 months, up to 1 year of relevant experience required.
  • Exceptional project management and event management skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and proven interpersonal skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Negotiation, problem-solving and diplomacy skills to resolve issues with stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to accomplish goals, meet deadlines and establish priorities with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work confidently under pressure to adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to details are necessary attributes.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that will allow evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to travel within Canada – i.e. a valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge and understanding of special event fundraising as a component of an overall community giving program an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce is considered an asset.
  • Experience delivering multi-day road cycling events is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with the First Responder and/or Education Communities is an asset
