Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute tens of thousands of hours across Canada to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Coordinator, Volunteer Services is responsible for onboarding volunteers across the organization. This role ensures a high-quality applicant experience through strategic outreach, responsive onboarding, and consistent communication with chapter teams to meet ongoing volunteer needs.
YOUR FOCUS
Volunteer Recruitment & Outreach (~10%)
  • Attend community and university recruitment events in person where possible.
  • Track success of recruitment sources and strategies and apply learnings to future outreach.
  • Other volunteer services coordination, as needed.
Onboarding, Record Management & Compliance (~90%)
  • Conduct interviews with applicants to assess values alignment and role suitability.
  • Approve or deny applications based on criteria and role fit.
  • Deliver volunteer orientation sessions, including chapter-specific context and expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, including attendance and role history.
  • Escalate concerns to supervisors and chapter managers.
  • Ensure smooth hand-off of newly onboarded volunteers to relevant local teams.
SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
  • Experience in volunteer coordination, HR, or community outreach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously.

EXTRA USEFUL SKILLS THAT YOU MAY HAVE!
  • Knowledge of the Gender Based Violence sector, specifically women’s shelters, is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding and interest in gender studies, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse in the local community is an asset.
ROLE DETAILS
  • JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
  • COMPENSATION: $ 55,000 - 65,000 Annually
  • LOCATION: Remote and residing in Calgary
  • HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (with some evening and weekend availability as needed)
