Position Summary
Joseph Brant Hospital is currently seeking a Coordinator, Security Services. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Support Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospital’s security services. This includes ensuring appropriate security guard coverage, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures, and leading or escalating incident investigations as necessary. The Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors at Joseph Brant Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact overseeing the day-to-day operations of security services within the hospital
- Assess and respond to emergency or crisis situations, ensuring timely de-escalation and resolution
- Liaise with emergency personnel, including police, fire, and paramedic services; direct first responders as needed during emergency investigations
- Lead and conduct thorough incident investigations, including interviews and evidence collection, in alignment with College policy and legal guidelines
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive documentation (e.g., incident and investigation reports, security breaches, facility and safety hazards)
- Ensure compliant management of Records and Information Assets, safeguarding personal and confidential information as per Records and Information Management Policy and Procedure
- Provide ongoing direction, monitoring, and feedback to security guards to ensure effective and professional service delivery
- Ensure prompt and appropriate response to various emergency and non-emergency situations including fire evacuation, threats of violence, bomb threats, and trespassing to ensure safety for all
- Initiate data collection procedures in response to reports of suspicious or potentially dangerous situations or occurences
- Operate and coordinate maintenance of equipment (e.g., overhead doors, safety equipment, emergency lighting, electro-magnetic lock overrides) with Facilities and external vendors
- Enforce hospital parking and smoke-free policies, utilizing legislated enforcement where appropriate
- Support the activation and execution of the Corporate Contingency Alert System when activated during off-busines hours, and effectively notify Emergency Services in a timely manner
- Manage access control by monitoring and authorizing entry/exit of visitors, contractors, and service personnel using strict access control principles and technology
- Conduct regular security patrols (both static and mobile) throughout hospital buildings and exterior areas
- Operate the hospital’s CCTV surveillance system in accordance with all relevant Hospital policies
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Law Enforcement & Security Administration program or equivalent education in a related field
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a coordinator or supervisory role, preferably within a healthcare environment
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Criminal Code of Canada, Private Security and Investigations Act, Trespass to Private Property Act, Mental Health Act, and Federal/Provincial Privacy laws
- Must possess and maintain a valid Security Guard License under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005
- Demonstrated understanding and experience regarding emergency codes, building codes, and fire regulations
- Advanced knowledge and experience with CCTV systems, surveillance software, and related technologies
- Proficient with access control systems and key control/distribution processes
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team to achieve departmental goals
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others by taking all reasonable precautions, and working in compliance with hospital-related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices
- Actively participates in continuing education to enhance professional knowledge
- Flexible, self-motivated, and capable of working effectively with minimal supervision
- Proven strengths in customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for inter-site travel
