DUTIES:
Reporting to the Manager of Contracts, Field Services, & Maintenance, this position will be responsible for providing technical support for the evaluation of new and existing infrastructure, construction methods and materials, specifications and standards; carries out new product research and makes recommendations for acceptance; develops safety procedures and evaluates related equipment; procurement and project administration of tenders for contracts and agreements for the purpose of maintenance and special projects for the Public Works Operations department. Responsible for the administration and enforcement of By-Law 25-2010. Other duties include review and analysis of test results on all materials, including granular, asphalt, concrete, concrete pipe, etc;, research for all activities of the division, including new products, construction methods and materials, mix designs, various outside quality assurance programs, construction designs and other related topics; review and maintain current City specifications and standards and standard drawings; liaise with consultants’ personnel to ensure uniform application of City specifications and standards, review and evaluate City infrastructure and generally advise and inform on these and related issues; coordinate soil sampling and research, review and report on soils reports; coordinate inflow/infiltration studies, including the installation, maintenance of flow loggers, rain gauges and downloading and interpreting information, including dye and smoke testing; plan/coordinate basement flooding studies and investigate individual basement flooding complaints; investigate homeowner complaints regarding service connections and coordinate repair by contractors; Health and Safety Committee representative responsible for maintenance and repair of safety equipment and staff training in Confined Space Entry and traffic control procedures; administer recycling programs; technical support in all areas, including various studies and other related topics, coordinate traffic control, asset management; Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.
