Job summary

Caledon Public Library is seeking a Coordinator, Programming and Outreach to develop, schedule and facilitate diverse programs across all ages. The role involves strengthening partnerships with community groups and supporting outreach initiatives throughout Caledon.

The ideal candidate will have a post-graduate library degree and 1+ year of programming experience with a strong customer service orientation. Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint and Symphony ILS is preferred.

Qualifications

  • We require a post-graduate degree in Library and Information Studies/Science or related field and at least one year of library experience.
  • Candidate should have programming experience with diverse age groups and strong customer service background.
  • Facility with MS Office, SharePoint and Symphony Integrated Library Software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule and facilitate a wide range of library programs across all ages.
  • Support outreach initiatives and community engagement to reflect diverse populations.
  • Act as the Person in Charge (PIC) at the branch when required and manage incidents and staff coverage.
  • Represent the Library at events and prepare content for newsletters and social channels.

The Opportunity (Vacancy: Replacement)

Caledon Public Library is a hub for discovery, innovation, and inspiration. Reporting directly to the Manager, Programming and Outreach, the Coordinator is tasked with the ongoing development, scheduling and facilitation of a wide range of library programs that support and reflect the needs of a growing and diverse population. This position will also support outreach initiatives and community engagement across Caledon.

This position builds relationships with community members and integrates library services, resources, programs, and initiatives to make a positive impact while advancing the Library’s strategic priorities

As the Coordinator, Programming and Outreach, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Programming:
  • Develop, schedule and facilitate a wide range of programs system-wide in all formats and for all ages, ensuring programs are engaging, innovative and supportive of a growing and diverse community
  • Remain informed of shifting trends relevant to library programming; monitoring innovations and emerging technologies to ensure program offerings are responsive and appealing
  • Establish and maintain transformative partnerships with community groups, social service providers, local businesses and key stakeholders in support of library programming and outreach efforts.
  • Make recommendations on programming policies and procedures as well as outcome and evaluation criteria required to assess program impact and alignment with strategic objectives
Customer Service:
  • Facilitate concise, accurate, two-way and timely communication of departmental issues, customers incidents and/or complaints to the Manager, Programming and Outreach and/or the appropriate member of the management team
  • May be required to provide coverage at front-line service points:
    • Respond to enquiries regarding customer accounts and borrower services
    • Provide reference and readers advisory services
    • Demonstrate the use of the online public catalogue to
    • Promote and demonstrate use of electronic resources/online databases including eBooks to customers
    • Assist customers in the use and troubleshooting of electronic devices, (i.e. iPad, tablet, phone, )
    • Provide photocopying, fax and scanning assistance to customers
Promotion:
  • Represent the Library and engage the community at offsite events
  • Prepare reviews and other content for newsletters, library blogs and media channels
  • Support library programs and events as required
Other:
  • Act as Person in Charge (PIC) at the branch, when required: monitor staff attendance; ensure adequate staffing, oversee the opening and secure closing of the branch; resolve, record, and/or report all incidents, issues, and emergency scenarios
The Ideal Candidate

We are seekinga passionate professional with a post-graduate degree in Library and Information Studies/Science, or related field. Our ideal candidate has minimum of one (1) year library experience, preferably in a public library, a minimum of 1 (one) year programming experience working with all age groups as well as 2 (two) years in a customer-focused setting.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated facilitation skills, and the ability to effectively engage audiences of all ages and appreciation of and commitment to excellence in public library service. We are seeking an individual with computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), SharePoint and Symphony Integrated Library Software (ILS).

This position offers a salary range of $78,683.40 to $98,354.25 and a competitive benefits package.
