Position Overview

The Olympic Oval in the Faculty of Kinesiology is seeking a Full-time Regular Coordinator Power Engineering/ Building Operator. The facility is a premier Winter Olympic legacy site and part of the University of Calgary, hosting high-performance athletes, research, and community events. The role involves independently managing complex mechanical and refrigeration systems, primarily focusing on the safe operation and maintenance of the refrigeration plant.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Management: Support the Oval's reputation, oversee a team of technicians, ensure safety standards, and implement operational policies.
  2. Operations & Maintenance: Maintain mechanical systems, ensure safety compliance, manage records, and improve operational efficiencies.
  3. Financial & Projects: Support capital projects, oversee budgets, and coordinate maintenance and upgrades.
  4. Communication: Liaise with contractors, internal departments, and stakeholders, and promote energy efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in facilities management or equivalent experience, with a valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in artificial ice maintenance, building/mechanical systems, and refrigeration systems.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities.
Additional Details

Hours: 35 hours/week, including evenings and weekends; on-call during peak seasons. Some travel may be required. Application deadline: May 27, 2025.
