It all began on the corner of Granville and 28th where seven fearless women welcomed 17 students to the very first York House School in 1932. About This Role:

Working alongside the Student Life and belonging team, this person will build the community learning and leadership profile within the senior school. The successful candidate will work with students, teachers and staff to build a program that develops the skills and aptitudes for our community to live out our motto, Not For Ourselves alone.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Risk management training is an asset
  • British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent
  • Five years teaching experience is preferred
  • Community-based involvement and engagement is an asset

Responsibilities:

Develops Community Partnership & Programs for Student Leadership

  • Creates and implements a plan for student civic responsibility, experiential learning, and leadership development
  • Researches and cultivates strategic partnerships with local and global community-based organizations and schools in order to facilitate volunteer, internship, leadership opportunities for students (Grades 8 – 12)
  • Develops, manages, evaluates, and improves long-term partnerships and initiatives that connect to, and enrich the curriculum
  • Works with Senior School faculty and staff to develop community service and work-integrated learning internships to support the Career education program
  • With support from staff sponsors, guides and mentors the student exec team to coordinate school-wide learning opportunities (i.e. assemblies, classroom inquiry projects, Spark Day and Spark block) and action-projects to deepen learning about issues including gender equity, reconciliation, anti-racism, environmental sustainability, the UN Sustainable Development goals
  • Develops modules of learning supporting student leadership development that contribute to a certificate or microcredential upon graduation
  • May teach a Senior School course
  • Administers community engagement programs, school-wide, issues-driven assemblies, Duke of Edinburgh Program, international exchange and excursions, student leadership initiatives, wellness and community initiatives and work-integrated learning internships
  • Supports community service initiatives across the grades (8-12)
  • Deepens the school’s approach to experiential learning with stakeholders including partnering with the CLC12 teacher to create opportunities for the
  • Work-integrated learning program
  • Creates, monitors, administers, and evaluates the effectiveness of partnerships, international excursions
  • Coordinates the international exchange program and supports national & international excursion process

Other Duties

  • May be required to teach Senior School classes
  • Will serve the role of Senior School Teacher Advisor

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and overseeing experiential programs
  • Fluency in several languages an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to the growth and advancement of global education and community-based programs experiential learning
  • Experience with facilitating issues-based conversations with high school age students
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and cultural lenses they bring to interactions
  • Ability to participate in a national or international excursion as needed
    Energy, flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humour
