Job Description

Materials Coordinator

The Materials Coordinator position, under general supervision, is responsible for establishing the quantity and order date for materials needed to meet the master production schedule. Additionally, the coordinator initiates purchase or production requisitions as appropriate.

Performance Expectations

  • Coordinate and release vendor materials to meet daily production schedules.
  • Influence weekly and long-term production requirements for all lines through daily analysis of customer releases.
  • Manage inventory stock levels using advanced inventory control techniques; monitor and update minimum and maximum stock levels.
  • Maintain target inventory levels for raw and finished goods, conduct cycle counts, and perform physical inventories.
  • Develop and maintain weekly and daily shipping schedules for all customers and vendors.
  • Utilize customer software systems for daily communication standards.
  • Dispute infractions affecting customer ratings when applicable.
  • Support subcontracting suppliers to ensure schedules are met.
  • Expedite customer and vendor requirements when necessary.
  • Coordinate transportation and vendor releases to ensure timely delivery and minimize freight costs.
  • Generate customer and vendor delivery performance metrics.
  • Perform monthly physical inventories as needed, under the Materials Manager's supervision.
  • Maintain computerized and manual inventory control systems.
  • Provide shipment information to the customs department.
  • Plan task sequences at the start of each shift to meet deadlines.
  • Complete forms such as weekly inventory sheets and communicate with suppliers regarding purchase orders.
  • Calculate invoices and process payments from customers.

Credentials

  • Post-secondary education in Materials Management or related experience.
  • Minimum two years of production planning experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of MRP and web-based customer systems (Ford DDL, GM SupplyPower, DCX S.M.A.R.T.) is an asset.
  • Understanding of QS9000, TS16949, and ISO14001 standards.
  • Ability to read invoices, parts order forms, packing slips, and bills of lading.
  • Experience with computer-operated machinery for printing delivery slips.
