Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, Long-Term Care and Assisted Living, the Coordinator, LTC Physician and NP Services plays a key role in sustaining high-quality medical care across Long-Term Care (LTC). The Coordinator supports effective physician and nurse practitioner services across Long-Term Care by coordinating provider onboarding, credentialling, operational processes, and administrative supports, while promoting consistent practices across Island Health.
This role supports the Regional Medical Director and Medical Coordinator in addressing Island-wide challenges in recruitment, retention, onboarding, credentialling, and succession planning for physicians and nurse practitioners, while also exploring alternate models of care such as NP integration, virtual care, and diverse funding approaches (LFP, FFS, and contracts). The Coordinator builds and maintains strong relationships with Divisions of Family Practice, the Medical Advisory Council, site leadership, and Island Health departments to create alignment and consistency in how LTC services are supported.
In partnership with training programs, academic institutions, and clinical leaders, the Coordinator actively promotes and facilitates LTC learning opportunities with medical students, residents, and nurse practitioner learners to build a sustainable pipeline of providers. By connecting clinical leaders, community partners, learners, and operational teams, the Coordinator helps position Long-Term Care as a viable, attractive, and integral component of longitudinal care within Island Health while supporting providers throughout their practice lifecycle.
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in health administration, business, or related field and five (5) years' experience in health care, ideally in roles with project coordination, physician services, or partner engagement.
