Program Overview – Financial Empowerment, Community Programs

The Financial Empowerment (FE) Program aims to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty by addressing financial barriers faced by clients. We offer free, unbiased financial counselling, education, and tax filing support to low-income Torontonians. We are continuously developing and expanding, exploring innovative methods and researching best practices to maximize client impact.

The Coordinator, Financial Empowerment will oversee WoodGreen's year-round income tax filing service, develop and facilitate group workshops on financial topics relevant to low-income individuals, and support the development of new client service innovations within the program.

What You Will Do
  1. Coordinate intake and appointment booking for FE and Income Tax services; train and oversee students and volunteers.
  2. Perform light-touch financial interventions with clients, such as tax returns and supporting financial applications.
  3. Maintain documentation and support volunteers in accurate data entry.
  4. Coordinate volunteer training and service delivery for tax clinics; provide oversight and instruction.
  5. Monitor volunteer performance, provide feedback, and resolve conflicts.
  6. Support skill development of volunteers, ensuring high-quality customer service.
  7. Develop and facilitate financial literacy workshops on various topics.
  8. Manage workshop schedules and volunteer support.
  9. Conduct outreach to build community partnerships to reach target clients.
  10. Collect attendance, feedback, and conduct research and evaluations.
  11. Participate in program planning and development.
  12. Collaborate on new service delivery innovations and support other programs in connecting clients to FE services.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience in program coordination and workshop facilitation within social services.
  • Experience with intake or outreach to marginalized populations and volunteer program coordination is an asset.
