Job summary

Lightwell Learning seeks an Early Years Program Coordinator to deliver three Early Years programs for children from preschool to early elementary years. You will combine individualized instruction and small-group facilitation within a neuroaffirming, strengths-based framework, collaborating with families, educators, BI, SLP, OT and other professionals.

The role emphasizes play-based learning, family engagement, and resource coordination, with a focus on creating nurturing, inclusive environments

Purpose of Position

The Early Years Program Coordinator will play a key role in delivering Lightwell Learning's Early Years programming including program coordination, one-to-one instruction, and social programs for learners Pre-K to grade 3.

The position combines individualized instruction, small-group facilitation, family engagement, and resource coordination within a neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and evidence-based framework. The successful candidate will collaborate with families, educators, behavioural interventionists (BI), speech-language pathologists (SLP), occupational therapists (OT), and other professionals to foster learning, belonging, and success.

All these programs are designed to foster the creation of a nurturing, inclusive, and strengths-based environment where children of all developmental stages and abilities can thrive.

The Early Years Program Coordinator will play a key role in delivering three of Lightwell Learning’s Early Years programs, serving children and families from preschool to early elementary years.

RISE One-to-One: Individualized educational support for learners in Kindergarten to Grade 3.

Early RISErs: A play-based, family participation program for children ages 3 to 6 (Pre-K and Kindergarten).

Brain Buddies: A small-group social learning program for learners in Grades 1 to 3.

This role offers a meaningful opportunity to work closely with preschool-aged and early years children, their families, and other early years professionals to support children in these crucial years of their learning journey.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Instruction

• Facilitate engaging group programs for preschool and elementary-aged learners
• Deliver individualized one-to-one instruction in person and online using play-based and explicit instruction strategies.
• Develop and implement learning plans, activities, and support strategies tailored to learner strengths and goals.
• Support the development of literacy, numeracy, executive functioning, self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and confidence.
• Create inclusive, welcoming learning environments that encourage participation and engagement.
• Support learners with transitions, sensory needs, and diverse learning profiles.

Family Engagement & Communication

• Build positive relationships with children, families, and caregivers.
• Model and share practical strategies that support learning and development.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding progress, goals, and participation.
• Prepare observations, progress updates, and reports as required.

Program Coordination & Resource Management

• Support program enrollment, scheduling, and participant communication.
• Maintain accurate learner records and program documentation.
• Coordinate learner information and support plans with team members.
• Assist with program setup, organization, and resource management (including Lightwell Learning's Lending Library).
• Participate in team meetings, planning discussions, and program evaluation.
• Uphold Lightwell Learning policies, procedures, and values.

Qualifications

Listed below are a number of different experiences and educational qualifications that could make you a great fit for our team! Applicants do not need to meet all the qualifications listed to be considered.

• Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and license from the ECE Registry (preferred)
• BC Certified Teacher with strong focus on early years/kindergarten school education and/or special education with neurodiverse learners
• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or similar studies.
• Behavioural Interventionist (BI) certification with BCBA (preferred)
• Literacy Specialist certification, Orton-Gillingham certification, or experience teaching specialized programs with young children
• Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) or SLP-Assistant education and experience
• Occupational Therapy (OT), OT-Assistant, or Physical Therapy education and experience
• Significant experience working with diverse preschool-aged children and their families.
• Significant experience leading interactive circle/story time or similar group activities with young children

Skills & Competencies

• Experience working with preschool-aged children with undiagnosed or diagnosed learning differences and/or developmental delays
• Strong communication skills, including being comfortable discussing child development, learning plans, and support strategies with parents/guardians
• Experience creating and delivering inclusive, age-appropriate activities, games, or crafts
• Experience implementing early intervention strategies, assessment recommendations, Individualized Education Plans, and/or other types of support plans
• Experience organizing, maintaining, and overseeing systems for resources, supplies, and materials.
• Interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
• Demonstrated values alignment with our charitable mission, including strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices
• Some experience with assistive technology or STEAM programming is an asset
• Some experience with sign language, AAC devices, or other communication supports (assets)
• Ability to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

Reports to: Senior Manager, Early Years Program

Hours of Work

• Between 30 to 37.5 hours per week, with 30 minute unpaid meal breaks
• This is primarily a weekday one-to-one instructor and coordinator position with a stable schedule, including a standing Tuesday evening group and Saturday early years program
• Scheduling flexibility is available based on program enrollment and operational needs. The successful candidate must be available to support the following programs:
  • RISE One-to-One: Instructional hours are scheduled during weekdays based on learner enrollment and instructor availability. While initial scheduling is flexible, instructors maintain a consistent weekly schedule once matched with learners. Instructional hours are generally between 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., with occasional start times (as early as 9:30 a.m.) depending on learner schedules and instructor availability. Instructors are not expected to be available for all operating hours, only during their agreed-upon availability and scheduled instructional times.
  • Early RISErs: Saturdays, 9:30am to 4:30pm (offered in 9-week cycles during fall, winter, and spring, no sessions on long weekends)
  • Brain Buddies: Tuesdays, 4:00 to 6:00pm (offered in 10-week cycles during fall and winter)

Remuneration and Benefits

$52,000 to $55,000 per year, based on a 37.5 hour per week schedule

• $1,000 contribution to RRSP or equivalent in 2026. For reference, our organization is currently researching whether and how we may participate in retirement savings / pension plan options. Updates on this may be offered during the interview process.
