The Office of Indigenous Engagement within the Provost & VP Academic is currently seeking a Full-time Staff Limited Term Coordinator, Cultural Programs for approximately 1 year with the possibility of extension.
This position is part of the Office of Indigenous Engagement and reports to the Operations Manager with day-to-day guidance provided by the Specialist Cultural Protocols. The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with other team members and will assist with : special projects related to cultural protocol; stewardship of the ii' taa'poh'to'p tipi (May-September) and other cultural gifts; planning of special cultural events, assist with the coordination of Elder sub circles related to the Circle of Advisors and the creation of the Centre for Indigenous Oral Traditions and Languages, special requests for knowledge keepers to be engaged in teaching, learning, and cultural event planning.
This position is part of the AUPE bargaining unit. Hours may fluctuate during peak periods.
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, and with day-to-day oversight provided by the Specialist, Cultural Protocols, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting and assisting with the stewardship of the ii' taa'poh'to'p tipi, which will include tipi workshop training, tipi set-up / take down with the recruitment of trained volunteers for tipi set-up and take downs through Better Impact. This position will also assist with the coordination of requests and support offered by the OIE for Elder / traditional knowledge keepers in teaching, learning, and special events. The incumbent will assist with select sub circles related to the Circle of Advisor Elders and assist with the development of the Centre for Indigenous Oral Tradition and Languages. With the guidance of Specialist, Cultural Protocols, the incumbent will also undertake special projects related to resources and guidelines and special collections that assist with Elder engagement as well as stewardship, request processes, and management of our tipi as well as other special cultural gifts.
