We are currently seeking a Coordinator, Accessibility to join our Office of the Vice President, Equity & Inclusive Communities team.
Job Overview
The Coordinator, Accessibility will assist the Manager, Disability Justice and Well-being within the Office of Equity and Inclusive Communities (OEIC) in supporting the university's efforts to create an inclusive, accessible environment for all students, staff, and faculty. This role is focused on providing essential support for initiatives aimed at promoting accessibility and advancing disability justice across the university community.
The Coordinator will support the implementation of programs, resources, and activities designed to address accessibility needs and support the inclusion of people with disabilities. Working closely with the Manager and other team members, this position will assist in the identification of barriers and contribute to raising awareness of disability justice issues.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Sociology, Political Science, Social Justice, Social Work, Disability Justice, etc.
- Minimum of one year of disability justice experience in a work or volunteer environment. This can include work outside of regular job duties.
- Training or certification in equity, diversity, and inclusion, or similar is an asset.
- Lived experience as a person with a disability is preferred.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of disability justice work.
- Demonstrated understanding of EDI-related concepts such as unconscious bias, microaggressions, and intersectionality.
- Experience in working with individuals from equity-denied groups.
- Demonstrated ability to be aware of and support others' needs.
- Working knowledge of human rights laws and other relevant legislation.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
- Ability to source programming and/or training.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to multi-task, be self-directed, and to make decisions to meet deadlines.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
Salary Information
Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
