Your Role

CBC Kelowna is looking for a producer to coordinate our multi-platform news content across our British Columbia locations. You will be an accomplished journalist with a sharp eye for a range of stories that connect with contemporary Canada and a proven track record of reporting on diverse and underrepresented communities.

In this role, you will work with and assign reporters in CBC’s smaller bureaus around B.C. for all digital, audio and video platforms. You will provide hands-on editorial direction on the daily news agenda and lead and motivate staff to publish and distribute breaking news and fast-paced multimedia content. You will vet material and will provide feedback and mentorship as needed.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, you will help guide programming decisions around breaking news, live coverage, alerts, video, photos and in-depth content in line with strategic goals.

Your Profile
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years recent experience in a multi-media news environment.
  • Strong journalistic and communication skills.
  • Proven understanding of the stories of underrepresented communities and how to tell them.
  • Ensuring inclusive language and framing in stories that accurately represent the diverse experiences of British Columbians.
  • Substantial experience writing, copy editing, fact-checking and packaging digital and social content in compelling and innovative ways.
  • Ability to assign, manage and motivate staff, coordinate with other departments in a productive manner, and mediate disputes as they arise.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.
  • Knowledge of user-generated content and social media techniques and policies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assign and program news and current affairs stories for audiences on digital, audio and visual platforms and collaborate to identify and prioritize top stories across the province.
  • Coordinate the distribution of news content across multiple platforms to maximize audience engagement including in breaking news situations.
  • Ensure consistent quality and accuracy of content across all media types that adhere to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
  • Provide editorial feedback and guidance on key stories, and their rollouts.
  • Work closely with editors and journalists to adapt stories for different formats and audiences.
  • Monitor audience feedback and analytics to refine content strategies.
  • Quick content turnaround, typically for web + video but sometimes live tape excerpts, for the record (FTR)
