Job Summary

This job is exclusively for Coop Students who are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary co-operative education program.

You are responsible for carrying out specific assignments involving the provision of engineering support, including research, data analysis and database management, and preparing reports.

Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Development Review, the Co-op Student - Engineering, Planning Services, is responsible for the technical review of infrastructure related to development work submitted by consultants, developers and the general public. The Co-op student also provides technical support in the review and approval of engineering submissions, including plans, specifications, reports and studies.

The Co-op student provides technical support in the review, commenting and the approval of development applications in a timely and efficient manner as it relates to Infrastructure Approvals matters for :

  • Building permit grading and servicing plans;
  • Grading & drainage plans;
  • Site plans;
  • Committee of Adjustment severance and minor variance applications.

The Co-op student also :

  • Coordinates on-going construction activities for development related projects with various City departments;
  • Provides technical support of the review and approval of infrastructure submissions in order to ensure conformity and compliance with municipal, provincial and federal standards and specifications;
  • Calculates and establishes security requirements for financial bonding purposes, engineering fees collected by the city, frontage and municipal collect back charges owing to the city or outside sources;
  • Reviews cost estimates for letter of credit calculations;
  • Recommends release of Building Permit Bonding;
  • Responds to general enquiries.

Education And Experience

Enrolment in a recognized co-operative engineering program.

No Experience Required

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic concepts is desirable.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers.

Competencies, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to conduct research, sort and categorize findings
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions on information
  • Write reports and present information in a clear and direct manner both written and verbal
  • Computer applications such as Corel Draw, Excel and Word
  • Analytical and research techniques
