Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Cooks Helper in the Nutrition and Food Service at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre to assist in preparing fresh to order room service meals for patients and clients in a fast-paced line cooking team.

Responsibilities include measuring and portioning ingredients, following cost controls and safety procedures, and delivering courteous service while supporting dietary and menu standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Recognized Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain within six months.
• One (1) year related experience required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including ability to follow written and oral instructions required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills and ability to work under pressures of time limitations.
• Physical capability to perform duties including heavy lifting, standing for long periods, and weekend/rotating shifts as assigned.
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

About the Opportunity

The Cooks Helper is responsible for preparing fresh to order room service menu items for patients, clients and customers within a fast paced line cooking team environment. The Cooks Helper is responsible for the ingredient control of recipes which includes the measuring and portioning of recipe ingredients and the production of food items for the patient menu. The Cooks Helper is also responsible for following: cost control procedures, safe food handling procedures, therapeutic, allergy and menu standards, and providing overall customer service according to departmental standards.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Grade 12 or equivalent required

• Casual relief position; no guaranteed hours

Compensation and Benefits

$23.25 - $25.84 Hourly
