Job summary

School District 5 Southeast Kootenay is seeking a cook to prepare and assist in meals, supervise students in an instructional kitchen, and work under an assigned supervisor.

The role is temporary until the return of the incumbent or June 25, 2027, with 40 hours per week, 7:00–15:30 when school is in session. Compensation follows the CUPE agreement, starting at $30.75 per hour.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Possess or working towards Inter-provincial Journeyman Cook Certificate (Red Seal).
• Food Safe Certificate.
• Minimum of three years' experience in institutional and/or commercial food preparation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and instruct students in assigned learning situations and food preparation assignments as required. Report on student progress to administration.
• Assist in demonstration and instruction of students in proper food preparation, cooking and baking methods, safety habits, hygiene and sanitation standards.
• Cook, bake, and perform other food-preparation duties for daily breakfast and lunch programs and special events.
• Assist with the preparation of breakfast and lunch recipes and menus.
• Assist in the ordering of food and supplies, and maintain inventory levels.
• Operate and maintain standard kitchen tools and appliances.
• Participates in kitchen cleanup routine.
• Manage cash register sales and maintain records.

Education

Grade 12 or equivalent
