Golden Life is hiring a part-time Cook for Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook, BC. The 0.50 FTE position offers Day/Evening shifts from 12:00 to 19:00. The role focuses on high-quality meal preparation, safe kitchen practices, and collaboration with staff to ensure smooth service.

The ideal candidate has a cooking college program, Food Safe certification, and a positive team spirit, with eagerness to support residents and staff while maintaining compliance and accuracy in records.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school is required.
• College program in cooking is preferred; proven cooking experience may be considered.
• Food Safe Certification is required.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, a team player, and good problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals, baked desserts, and soups.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen with proper food handling.
• Rotate stock, date and contain food as needed.
• Coordinate deadlines and timeframes with colleagues for meal service.
• Communicate with dishwashers and servers about cleanup.
• Engage with guests briefly to gauge satisfaction with food and service.
• Complete records for inventory, orders, budgets and costing.

Position Type: Regular, Part-Time (0.50 FTE)

Shift Schedule: Day / Evening

Shift Times: 12:00 - 19:00 (8 hour shift)

What You’ll Do

• Prepareand bakedesserts and soups.
• Ensurethe kitchen is operated in a clean, safe and efficient manner, including ensuringthat all staff followsafe food handling procedures.
• In order to maintain and rotate stock, the cooks will need to date and appropriately contain food.
• Discuss deadlines and timeframes with colleagues to coordinate meal service and the sharing of equipment, workspace, and functions.
• Communicate with dishwashers and servers regarding cleanup.
• It is encouraged that the cook chats briefly with guests at their tables to ascertain satisfaction with the food and their service.
• Complete all required records, which may include, but are not limited to, equipment and food inventory, food and supply orders, budget requirements and other costing measures.

What You Bring

• Completion of secondary school.
• Completion of college program in cooking. Several years of related, proven cooking experience may also be considered.
• Food Safe Certification.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, a team player, and excellent problem-solving skills.
• A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• A negative TB test and up-to-date immunization record.
