Job description

Job Opportunity: Cook at the City of Mississauga

Join us to test your culinary skills under the guidance of internationally trained chefs and be eligible for gratuity sharing. We are seeking qualified cooks to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, guest-focused environment at the City of Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work independently alongside full-time staff, including during minor events and functions (preps, portioning, cooking, serving).
  • Provide direction to part-time staff in the absence of the Chef.
  • Follow specific recipes provided by the Chef.
  • Prepare proteins and cook dishes, including à la carte items.
  • Monitor inventory and manage par stock levels.
  • Coordinate timely food service in the kitchen.
  • Assist the Chef/Supervisor in daily kitchen operations.
  • Assist with ordering supplies.
  • Maintain proper cleaning procedures for dishes and utensils.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service consistently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years culinary experience and/or formal training with strong skills in food preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  • Food Handlers Certification.
  • Smart Serve Certification.
  • Emergency First Aid / CPR 'B' Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, and various shifts, including early mornings and late evenings.
  • Light lifting capability.
  • Flexibility to work at various locations, including Q-Banquet at the Civic Centre, Living Arts Centre, BraeBen Golf Course, Lakeview Golf Course, Lakefront Promenade, and Malton Youth Hub, depending on skills and availability.
Additional Details

Hourly Rate / Salary: $19.22 - $22.84

  • Eligible for gratuity sharing.

Grade: PC

Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours per week.

Work Location: Various Locations

Department: CMS / Community Services Department, CMS / Recreation & Culture Division, South District

Other Information

This position is non-union. Applicants may be considered for future vacancies within six months of this posting unless otherwise specified in a Collective Agreement.
