Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a Cook I at Islay Assisted Living to prepare, portion, and serve meals with limited supervision. You will follow established recipes and food safety standards while maintaining clean cooking areas.

The role is in Patient Food Services, 0.40 FTE, with shifts including Days, Evenings and Weekends. Posting ends 02-SEP-2026; date available 12-SEP-2026.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Physically capable to lift up to 46 lbs and push/pull meal carts up to 250 lbs.
  • Walk and stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Food Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food, portion and assemble meals with limited supervision.
  • Follow AHS guidelines for quantity, quality controls and sanitation.
  • Prepare meals using recipes and re-thermalization techniques.

Description:

As a Cook I, you will be responsible for food preparation, portion and assembly, and serving of menu items with limited supervision. Your typical duties may include preparing multi-ingredient recipes from raw ingredients using various cooking techniques and established recipes, preparing meals using precooked products utilizing various re-thermalization techniques and ensuring meals are appropriately portioned. You will follow AHS guidelines for quantity and quality controls, food safety standards, and established cleaning and sanitization practices to ensure the cleanliness of cooking equipment and work areas.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Customer service experience. Food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in-First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training.
