Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a casual Cook for the Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre – Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay. You will prepare and cook food items, portion and serve meals, and keep the kitchen clean while assisting Food Service Workers.

Completion of a recognized 12-month cooking program is required, with strong communication and teamwork skills. This on-site role offers benefits and opportunities within NH’s supportive teams across Northern BC.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized 12-month program in cooking or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with others and maintain professional interactions.

Responsibilities

• Serve food and maintain portion control and presentation.
• Wash and clean kitchen equipment, utensils and workstations.

Job description

Position Summary

We are currently looking for a hard working and dedicated Cook to fill a Casual position at the Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre – Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of Northern Health and working within the scope of Regional Northern Health (NH) Policies and Processes, the NH Regional Food Safety Plan and the NH Regional Food Sanitation Plan, this position performs duties related to the preparation and cooking of food items; portioning and serving food, washing and cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and designated cooking/workstations. Responsible for assigning tasks to designated Food Service Workers.

Qualfications

• Graduation from a recognized 12-month program in cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of this position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
