Position: Cook
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will ensure residents' nutritional needs are met with delicious, wholesome meals. You will collaborate with the dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.
Experience in a long-term care facility is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring standards are met.
- Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and times.
- Assist with serving meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling.
- Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus meeting nutritional needs and preferences.
- Assist in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering with the Food and Nutrition Manager.
- Monitor food inventory and coordinate supply ordering.
- Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment and utensils.
- Assist with special events and catering as needed.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements.
- Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
- Valid Food Handler's Certificate, kept up to date.
- Experience in long-term care or with seniors preferred; experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality settings accepted.
- Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination per Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care policy.

- Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including bending, standing, lifting, working in various temperatures, and working safely.
- Ability to multitask and complete routines within schedules.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
