Job summary

Extendicare in Ontario is seeking a Cook to join our culinary team, delivering high-quality meals, respecting dietary needs, and ensuring food safety in a clean, supportive environment. You will prepare nourishments, review menus, and supervise kitchen helpers while maintaining records.

Candidates should have formal chef training or culinary management certification, or a recognized cook qualification, plus a food handler certificate and a current Vulnerable Sector Check. Red Seal is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Chef training or culinary management certificate meeting OLTCH Act requirements.
  • Certificate of qualification as a Cook per OLTCH Act or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in food & nutrition or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepares food and nourishments per prescribed diets.
  • Maintains required records and monitors quality/quantity of food.
  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food prep and serving at meals.
  • Assumes responsibility for routine department operations in absence of Dietary Manager.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepares food and nourishments in accordance with prescribed diets.
  • Maintains all required records and monitors quality and quantity of food.
  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities at mealtimes.
  • Assumes responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager.
What You Bring
  • Chef training or culinary management certificate or diploma from a program that meets the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or
  • Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or
  • Post‑secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post‑secondary degree in food and nutrition
  • “Red Seal” certification preferred
  • Current Food Handler's Certificate
  • Must provide a complete and current (within three months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
