Job summary

Union Gospel Mission (Vancouver) in Vancouver is seeking a Cook to plan and prepare daily meals and snacks that meet municipal health regulations and our high standards. You will work with energetic volunteers and support residents of the Downtown Eastside by coordinating with the Manager of Kitchen Services.

This casual contract role requires a culinary school background, at least two years of cooking experience, and food safety certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized cooking/culinary school program.
• Minimum two years cooking experience.
• Food safe certification.
• Basic computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, set up and provide quality service in all areas of food production for daily meals and snacks.
• Meet meal guidelines as set out by the Kitchen Manager.
• Rotate stock.
• Organize and work with volunteers and residents of the Alcohol & Drug Recovery Program.
• Maintain organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment.
• Receive food donations and ensure adequate supplies of foodstuffs are on hand.
• Perform shipping and receiving duties when needed.
• Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Are you a passionate cook with a heart for service and a talent for creating delicious, nutritious meals? Join us at our Vancouver location as a Cook, where you'll plan and prepare daily meals and snacks that meet municipal health regulations and the high standards of Union Gospel Mission. You'll work alongside wonderful, eager, and energetic volunteers every day and collaborate with the Manager of Kitchen Services to support residents of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

This is a casual contract. The starting range for this position is $21.61 to $23.61 per hour. For individuals with their Real Seal certificate, the range is $25.01 to $27.33.

Working Conditions

• Work Location: Work is performed in an industrial kitchen. Frequent environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water.
• Physical Requirements: The employee will spend 100% of the time standing. Must be able to regularly lift 50lbs.

• Hours of Work: This position works a rotation of day and evening shifts. Moderate overtime may be required.
