Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. In this role, you will ensure residents' nutritional needs are met with delicious, wholesome meals, collaborating with dietary staff to plan menus, prepare food, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Mandatory Experience

Experience working in a long-term care facility is required.

Responsibilities
  1. Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
  2. Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and in a timely manner.
  3. Assist with meal service, respecting residents' food preferences.
  4. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling.
  5. Collaborate on menu development to meet nutritional needs and preferences.
  6. Assist in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering processes with the Food and Nutrition Manager.
  7. Monitor inventory and coordinate supply ordering.
  8. Ensure compliance with Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care regulations.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment and utensils.
  10. Support special events and catering as needed.
Requirements
  • Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate (must be kept current).
  • Experience in a long-term care setting or with seniors is preferred; experience in institutional, healthcare, restaurant, or hospitality cooking is acceptable.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 6 months.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination as per Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care policy.

  • Ability to handle physical demands, including bending, standing, lifting, temperature variations, and water exposure, while following safety practices.
  • Capability to multitask and adhere to routines within scheduled times.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
