Cook 2, Events

Occasional Part-time

Up to 24 hours per week on an as-needed basis; must be available days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Location: Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.

We are currently seeking a Cook 2, Events to join our Food & Beverage team. Under the direction of the Manager, Events Culinary Operations, F&B, the incumbent will participate in all food preparation, set up, service and breakdown of events as scheduled.

Rate of Pay: $20.09 - $25.48 per hour.

Responsibilities:
  1. Organizes, prepares and executes mis en place items for the outlets services according to standard recipes and directives of Chef on Duty including:
  • Preparation of all cold and hot items for service including but not limited to: vegetables, starches, desserts, sandwiches and salads.
  • Set up and organization of station for optimum quality product, and efficient, timely service.
  • Boiling, steaming, sautéing and plating and garnishing of all relevant items.
  • Responds to guest requests and special dietary needs as required.
  • Participates in post Service breakdown:
    • Ensures proper food storage and product turnover.
    • Cleans and sanitizes station and equipment to departmental standards.
    • Cleans and maintains fridge and relevant storage areas to ensure proper food storage, product turnover, product disposal and recycling of all relevant food products.
    • Identifies product and/or prep needs to Chef on Duty.
  • Maintains knowledge of safety and sanitation codes, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Ensures food is of good quality and seasoned appropriately by regularly tasting and assessing quality and freshness.
  • Qualifications:
    • A few years experience at a high quality, volume, hospitality or banquets operation.
    • Understanding of contemporary creative cuisine.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling and advanced cooking techniques.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle all kitchen equipment, and demonstrate safe handling to others.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling, safety and sanitation standards.
    • Teamwork, time management, and organization skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of hospitality practices and procedures.
    • Demonstrated understanding of cultural difference, sensitivity, awareness and lived experience.
