Job description

Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor at Watson Lake Community Hospital, the incumbent prepares and cooks meals for patients, residents, and customers according to prescribed departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Thorough knowledge of Food Safety practices
  • Knowledge of institutional cooking methods and practices
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and therapeutic diets
  • Knowledge of sanitation and occupational health and safety practices
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated skills in working with diverse populations
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and take action within scope of practice
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity

The successful applicant will have a Cooking Diploma/Certificate (minimum 1-year course), two (2) years of institutional and/or healthcare cooking experience, Food Safe 1 certificate, and a valid class 5 Yukon driver’s license. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.
