Job summary

Yukon Hospitals requires a Casual Specific Period cook to prepare meals for patients at Watson Lake Community Hospital and other facilities. The role emphasizes adherence to food safety, sanitation and therapeutic diet guidelines.

Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor, the incumbent demonstrates initiative, works with minimal supervision, and supports an integrated hospital system across Whitehorse General Hospital, Watson Lake and Dawson City facilities.

Qualifications

• Cooking diploma/certificate (minimum 1 year)
• Two years institutional/healthcare cooking experience
• Food Safe 1 certificate
• Valid Class 5 Yukon driver’s licence

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals for patients/residents/customers according to departmental policies

This position is at the L03 level with an hourly pay range of $30.82 to $39.00

Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor, Watson Lake Community Hospital, the incumbent prepares and cooks meals for patients/residents/customers according to prescribed departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

• Thorough knowledge of Food Safety practices;
• Knowledge of Institutional Cooking methods and practices;
• Knowledge of Basic Nutrition and Therapeutic Diets;
• Knowledge of Sanitation & Occupational Health and Safety Practices;
• Strong organization and time management skills;
• Good interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written);
• Demonstrated skills in working with diverse populations;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and take action within scope of practice;
• Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity .

The successful applicant will have a Cooking Diploma/Certificate (minimum 1 year course length), two (2) years of institutional and/or healthcare cooking experience, Food Safe 1 certificate, and a valid class 5 Yukon drivers’ license. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
