VANCOUVER SOCIETY OF CHILDREN’S CENTRE’S (VSOCC)

If you enjoy being around children, feel comfortable in a kitchen and want consistent part-time work, this could be the opportunity you are looking for.

We are searching for a permanent part-time cook to prepare simple pre-set menus for our food program. In addition to food prep, this position will be responsible for general kitchen clean up.

Reports to :

  • The Cook reports to the Food Services Manager.

Here’s how you will make a positive impact on a day-to-day basis :

  • Prepare meals for groups of35 to 60 children
  • Wash and sanitize lunch and snack dishes
  • Use knives and other basic home kitchen equipment
  • Follow recipes anduses basic math skills to determine quantities needed
  • Maintain inventory and order food from suppliers
  • Communicate professionally and effectively
  • Work effectively within a team
  • Work independently
  • Keep a tidy, organized and efficient kitchenby washing and sanitizing equipment, supplies, work surfaces and cupboards
  • Enjoy cooking for children in a busy atmosphere

In addition to being a wonderful and positive person & team player, you must have :

  • Food Safe Certification 1
  • Clear criminal record check
  • High school diploma
  • Basic First Aid (formerly OFA Level 1)
  • Some experience cooking complete meals for groups

Additional skills and experiences may include :

  • Courses in nutrition, food preparation, and storage
  • Courses in sanitation and hygiene practices
  • Experience working with / around children

Terms of Employment :

  • Salary : $24.57 per hour plus employer-paid health and welfare benefits.
  • Permanent part-time position : 6 hours / day (30 hours / week) from Monday to Friday
  • Starting : July 2, 2025
