Job description

City Experiences is seeking a Cook for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.

  • Please note, this is a seasonal / contract position

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity :

The successful Cook is technically competent in food preparation and production, contributes to general kitchen operations including receiving and storing provisions, is hospitable and cordial to coworkers and guests, and acts safely and responsibly. The Cook will provide an amazing experience to guests by providing quick service and high-quality food products in line with the menu and daily feature offerings.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to coworkers and guests as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Inspect food preparation and service areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Prepare high-quality food following prescribed recipes and production specifications.
  • Receive and organize hot line food orders; portion, arrange, and garnish food for service.
  • Receive and store food and supplies using proper food-handling techniques including stock rotation and monitoring temperatures of perishable products.
  • Assist in routine cleaning of kitchen including daily cleaning of equipment and implements, sanitizing food preparation surfaces, and mopping floors.
  • Heat, taste and adjust seasoning of and serve staff food as required.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Communicate with other departments to plan production and coordinate activities.
  • Maintain awareness of product specifications to create a secondary quality checkpoint as stocks are put away.
  • Refine and expand culinary knowledge and skills by applying oneself to gain experience from all stations.
  • Collaborate with management to develop daily feature recipes.
  • Develop personal culinary style within company standards.
  • Participate in requisitioning, receiving, and storage of products and mise-en-place.
  • Proactively upgrade professional skills through questioning and involvement in operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and public health rules and regulations.
  • Participate in pre-shift and post-shift line meetings.
  • Greet guests and describe dishes.
  • Deliver food to expediting station and maintain buffet areas.
  • Monitor and maintain buffet food and supplies throughout service.
  • Stock hot boxes and set up holding ovens and cold holding areas for service.
  • Be prepared to work at scheduled times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications :

  • Minimum two (2) years’ kitchen experience required.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate required.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential.
  • Hospitality or Culinary degree considered an asset.
  • Ability to take direction and work under supervision.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Service-oriented attitude.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and work in all weather conditions.
  • Availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays.
