Job summary

BD Diesel Performance in Abbotsford, BC is seeking a Converter Technician I (Level I) in our Transmission Department to join a team focused on quality and continuous improvement. You will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment in a supportive setting, contributing to high-performance products.

Schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with competitive pay and a safety-forward culture. This role offers growth opportunities within a recognized diesel aftermarket brand.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with torque converters or transmission components is an asset.
• Previous mechanical, automotive, manufacturing, or production experience is an asset.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating in a team.

Responsibilities

• Tear down torque converter cores and inspect components for wear and defects.
• Clean converter components using wash tanks and appropriate equipment.
• Machine, polish, and prepare converter components on an engine lathe per specifications.
• Assemble torque converters using appropriate tools, jigs, and fixtures.
• Pressure test completed converters to identify leaks or other issues.
• Balance torque converters and flex plates with specialized equipment.
• Perform basic quality checks and verify measurements with standard tools.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow safety and quality standards.

Position Overview

We are currently looking for a Converter Technician I (Level I) in our Transmission Department and would love to have you as a part of our team in the effort of expanding operations.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Pay: $26.00 / Per Hour

Responsibilities

• Tear down torque converter cores and inspect components for wear, damage, and other defects.
• Clean converter components using appropriate equipment, including wash tanks.
• Operate an engine lathe to machine, polish, and prepare converter components according to established specifications.
• Operate pneumatic presses to assemble converter subassemblies.
• Assemble torque converters using appropriate tools, equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
• Pressure test completed converters to identify leaks or other issues.
• Paint completed converters as required.
• Balance torque converters using specialized balancing equipment and TIG welding equipment.
• Balance flex plates using balancing equipment and a drill press.
• Perform basic quality checks throughout the teardown and assembly process.
• Use basic measurement and inspection tools to verify components meet required specifications.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment and tooling, including routine calibration checks.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Work under the close direction and guidance of senior technicians and/or the supervisor.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Who You Are

• Working knowledge of Windows-based systems and ERP software.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency using computers, scanners, tablets, and warehouse systems.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Basic math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with torque converters or transmission components is an asset.
• Previous mechanical, automotive, manufacturing, or production experience is an asset.
• Mechanical aptitude and an interest in developing technical skills.
• Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Previous experience operating a lathe, pneumatic press, balancing equipment, or welding equipment is an asset but not required.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established procedures.
• Ability to perform basic measurements and inspections accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently once trained while also working effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and a positive, willing-to-learn attitude.
