Scope of the Position

The Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and improvement of automated industrial machinery. They ensure smooth operations by monitoring and maintaining machinery and responding quickly to any issues.

Responsibilities

  • Test, troubleshoot, and oversee implementation of new processes
  • Install retrofits to existing systems and troubleshoot hardware, software, and instrument problems
  • Support start-up activities
  • Create and maintain automation processes
  • Oversee testing procedures, write reports, and ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations
  • Be available for support calls 24/7
  • Install, diagnose, and repair programmable logic controllers and other devices that operate automated equipment
  • Program, implement, and troubleshoot PLCs, robots, and HMIs
  • Perform preventative maintenance on production and support equipment
  • Repair equipment as needed
  • Maintain programming software, application files, and hardware
  • Improve equipment reliability and uptime related to automation and controls
  • Implement Continuous Improvement ideas related to automation and robotics
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift 60 lbs
  • Manual dexterity
  • Overtime as required
  • Work in an industrial environment with PPE required
  • Support a 3-shift operation (days, afternoons, midnights)

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology (Robot and Automation Program) or completion of a 2-year degree or technical certificate program
  • Manufacturing experience with technical knowledge in programming, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment
  • Knowledge of PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics (Nachi, ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
