Job description

Mikkelsen-Coward is seeking a Controls System Designerto join our growing Controls Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals and contribute to innovative building automation and control solutions.

Position Overview:

As a Controls System Designer, your primary responsibility will be to collaborate closely with our controls team to review mechanical and electrical drawings, develop layout strategies, and produce system drawings that maximize clarity and efficiency for field staff. Your role will help ensure accurate and timely execution of control system designs across a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review mechanical and electrical specifications and drawings to establish a baseline for design.
  • Analyze and break down systems and equipment drawings to develop control system layouts.
  • Determine wiring requirements for controls and equipment interfaces.
  • Design network layouts and determine optimal placement for operator workstations (OWS).
  • Interpret and document sequences of operation for HVAC and building automation systems.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in control systems design.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, hydronic systems, and electrical control systems.
  • Familiarity with the BACnet protocol is a definite asset.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to assist in resolving field issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours when required.
  • Must be able to pass background and security checks.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
