THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Controller will provide accurate information to the executive team and the rest of the business in support of their strategic direction for Di-Corp & Di-Corp USA. The Controller will lead the seamless operations of their accounting department and provide outstanding leadership to their team while building collaborative relationships across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Controller is responsible for full cycle accounting and dissemination of financial reporting. The Controller also coordinates the budgeting cycle, all relevant audits as required by external stakeholders, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring that company procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles with the following key responsibilities :

  • Assess and implement improvements to accounting policies, systems, and processes
  • Provide assistance to client Divisions in the budget process
  • Interpret financial report and reporting of accounting information to the executive team
  • Ensure regulatory filings and remittances are processed
  • Establish department performance objectives and goals in conjunction with the VP Finance
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries and other cost benefit analyses and financial management reports
  • Manage the company’s cash flow including monitoring payment terms, monitoring cash collections and completing a 13-week cash flow projection
  • Manage foreign exchange transactions within Di-Corp policy
  • Maintain a system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of controls over all accounting functions
  • Monitor the company’s compliance with debt covenants
  • Comply with all tax reporting and payment requirements
  • Preparing, analyzing, and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual operating results and budgets, and performance and variance reports for both internal use and board reporting
  • Maintain the financial forecast combined of historical & projections, including segment reporting and reporting renewal to enhance stakeholder use
  • Review capital requests and guide the approval process, including capital project financial modelling using discounted cash flow, and other valuation techniques
  • Work with data to evaluate and report on company-wide free cash flow and asset attribution
  • Analysis of financial performance including cost accounting, margin analysis and KPI performance
  • Providing accounting and analytical expertise on defined projects
  • Liaises with outside organizations and officials (e.g. auditors) to prepare required working papers
  • Ensure operational compliance with safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws
  • Promote and maintain positive Divisional relations
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders
  • Maintain a safe working environment and promote health and safety awareness
  • Support employee development, mentorship, and growth

FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Reporting & Pricing Support – Generate financial reports and provide analytical support to the team on pricing strategies and decisions.
  • System Integration & Data Management – Streamline and migrate transactional data from the trial ledger (TL) to IFS, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Payment Processing & Cash Flow Insight – Optimize payment processes while developing a clear understanding of cash flow dynamics.
  • Cash Management – Oversee and manage daily cash operations to ensure liquidity and financial stability.
  • Account Reconciliation – Perform timely and accurate reconciliations of financial accounts to maintain integrity of financial records.

THE INDIVIDUAL

Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes :

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant CPA, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working in a complex fast-paced environment and managing teams in a finance and accounting setting.
  • Working knowledge of specific requirements for US tax filings
  • Experience working with multi-jurisdictional sales
  • International sales / import and export experience
  • 401K, US insurance and payroll compliance knowledge
  • Understanding of ASPE standards and ability to apply standards to business transactions.
  • ERP implementation familiarity is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Sage and / or AS400 would be an asset.
  • Strong experience with full cycle accounting, coordinating budgeting, and completing corporate financial consolidations.
  • Coordinating collection of financial information from remote and autonomous business units and standardizing reporting from different financial systems for the purposes of financial performance analysis and reporting to Executive and external stakeholders.
  • Managing key banking, product vendor, legal, currency provider relationships.
  • Cashflow planning and cash management.
  • Knowledge of US tax compliance / regulations is as an asset
  • Ability to identify material issues or risks and bring them to the attention of the Executive management.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Understanding foreign exchange hedging is considered an asset.
