Job description

We are currently in search of a proficient and experienced Controller to become part of our Client's expanding team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Finance Department to ensure efficient organization and accurate financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards. Additionally, the Controller will be instrumental in the implementation of a new ERP system. Prior experience with ERP systems will be crucial for this integral Controller role. This position would be onsite working closely with each Department within the manufacturing facility located in Midland, Ontario.

Established in 1962, the company is a well-known manufacturer of precision tooling for the Automotive, Aerospace, and Home/Building Products sectors. Weber has expanded its product range over time to support its growth, including the introduction of the MasterGrain Entry Door Division.

Located in Midland, Ontario, this client is one of the assets owned by a Canadian Capital Corp. They specialize in high-quality steel, invar, and aluminum tooling, along with precision CNC machined aluminum parts. For the past two decades, this successful client has utilized nickel shell tooling using the Nickel Vapor Deposition (NVD) method. This process captures intricate surface details like leather and wood grains to create solid tools.

Recently, they have expanded their Midland operations by inaugurating a new manufacturing facility to expand their premium entry door division. MasterGrain offers well-crafted Doors with detailed wood grain patterns, combining the elegance of wood with the durability of high-quality fiberglass. MasterGrain delivers a diverse range of standard and custom doors to meet various needs.

What you will do:

  • Oversees timely and accurate monthly financial statements, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the operation of the accounting department, including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, capital assets, inventory and revenue recognition.
  • Provide strong leadership and coaching to the Finance team.
  • Manages the controls in the ERP system and acts as a key trainer for employees working on the ERP system.
  • As indicated above, our client is currently reviewing a new ERP system – Implementation management will be a high priority for this role.
  • Drive the digital transformation of financial processes by identifying opportunities for automation and implementing solutions to streamline workflows, improve efficiency and enhance accuracy.
  • Conduct cost accounting analysis, including variance analysis, standard cost updates and product profitability analysis to support strategic decision-making and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Maintains a specialized inventory system for various product lines, includes scheduling and coordinating cycle counts and the year-end counts.
  • Leads all activities associated with the annual external audit.

What you will bring:

  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Minimum five years’ progressive Finance experience in a Corporate Controller environment.
  • Industrial experience in job costing or cost accounting, an advantage.
  • Highly computer proficient with experience in MS Office, especially Excel and/or other accounting programs.
  • Experience with implementation of ERP systems an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in finance automation, process improvement and technology integration.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
